Subject: [BOARD-L] Site Review Committee
Date: Sat, 24 Jan 2004 15:46:57 -0700

The USGenWeb bylaws charge the Advisory Board with insuring that websites
linked from the national website maintain the guidelines and standards of
the USGenWeb Project. In the past, while the AB as a whole and individual
members have responded to complaints regarding specific sites, the AB has
not been proactive by periodically reviewing all of the XXGenWeb state sites.

I think it's time we did that and propose the following to insure the
quality and integrity of the Project.

I propose we form a standing committee--The Site Review Committee--composed
of the four State Coordinator Representatives and one additional AB member
to serve as chair, and task them as follows:

A. To periodically review all of the sites linked from the National Website
to insure they adhere to the letter and spirit of the bylaws and guidelines
for state sites, for special project sites and for sites outside the
project. To work with the State Coordinators and Special Project
Coordinators and webmasters to correct whatever problems are found.

For state Project sites, this includes (but is not necessarily limited to:
1. Prominent display of The USGenWeb Project logo on the home page
2. Direct working links to the county pages
3. A working direct link to The USGenWeb Project national website
4. A working direct link to The USGenWeb Project Archives (Digital
Library) at both their own state level
5. A working direct link to The USGenWeb Project Archives (Digital
Library) at teh national level
6. A working direct link to The USGenWeb Project's Guidelines/Standards
for county websites
7. A working direct link to The USGenWeb Project Copyright Information page
8. A working direct link to the WorldGenWeb Project
9. Adherence to The USGenWeb Project policy in regard to solicitation of
funds.
10. Adherence to The USGenWeb Project policy in regard to copyright

The committee is empowered to solicit volunteers from the membership to
accomplish this task.

B. To work with work with the State Coordinators to assist them in
developing and implementing appropriate review procedures for the local
sites in their states.

C. To review and recommend changes as necessary to The USGenWeb Project's
Guidelines/Standards for county websites:
http://www.usgenweb.com/volunteers/countypage.html and Guidelines/Standards
for State Websites
http://www.usgenweb.com/volunteers/statepage.html

May we have discussion please.
