Subject: FW: Grievance Committee--Suggestion

Here's one suggestion I received for taking volunteers -- thanks, Alice,
for your help!

And could we *please* not jump in to propose motions at this point?
Once a motion is made, the time for being creative and brainstorming all
the options seems to disappear -- the only appropriate discussion is the
merits of the motion itself. Then we always end up re-wording and
re-writing the motion, mostly because we didn't have the discussion
*first*.

Personally, I would like to have time for project members to give input
to their rep's. Maybe try an announcement on project lists asking for
that input BEFORE we're at the motion stage.

Would there any reason that the AB members appointed to the grievance
committee couldn't meet on a separate list to hash out procedures, then
present a report to the AB as a whole? I think that would make it
easier to move things along, since the AB as a whole could then focus on
whatever's next on the agenda while work is progressing on the
committee.

Ideally, I'd like to see the list announced on project lists, and make
it possible for members to subscribe on a read-only basis so that they
can follow the discussions -- they'd be able to reply off-list to the AB
members involved with their suggestions, criticism, etc. (It should go
without saying that any AB member who receives an email about the
committee would be able to forward it to the list.) The more
involvement from the members, the more likely we are to come up with a
fair and workable solution.
