Subject: Fact Finding Committee Progress Report No. 1

The committee has organized as follows:

Appointed Patrice Green, Secretary
Appointed Alice Gayley, Chair

The committee has initiated research into the following areas of possible organizational structures for the USGenWeb Project:

* Incorporate in any state as a non-profit (researching requirements for every state)

* Obtain an Agent for Service and/or register in one of the 12 states that
recognizes unincorporated non-profit associations.

* Research the requirements to obtain tax exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the
US code (necessary to obtain grants).

* Determine how to create/incorporate a "Friends of USGenWeb" organization that
can solicit funds to on behalf of the USGenWeb to further our goal of
putting genealogical data on line so that it is free to researchers.

Current activities:

Initiate identification and review of state requirements
for incorporation

Provide a fact sheet to the AB with basic information for
incorporation (or registration) in each state.

NOTE; The IRS recently published new requirements for
obtaining 501(c)(3) status in 2008. Research will begin on the
necessary steps.
