Subject: [BOARD] Final Report of the USGenWeb Project Fact FindingCommittee
Date: Tue, 13 May 2008 10:39:59 -0500
I think the group did an excellent job of presenting its findings and I see
no recommendations made because it wasn't supposed to make any.
Lawyers they consulted stated that incorporation doesn't make sense at this
time. The group did not say this was their recommendation.
The unincorporated non-profit status was presented factually and covers the
fact that benefits of inc. can be achieved by registering as such in a State
that recognizes same. This includes 501 (3) status and ability to receive
donations, etc. But, again, the group made no recommendation.
Staying the same....common sense dictates that this was/is always possible.
No recommendation to do this either.
The group did its job and there is no reason to "read" anything into its
carefully neutral report.
The next step for the AB? Formally accept the report and give official
thanks for a job well done. Then, either dismiss the committee, or allow
questions to be asked....posted on a public site for a few days....based on
whether or not Step Two will be taken.
Step Two: Put a non-binding opinion poll question on the ballot for the
upcoming election cycle. The timing of the final report is such that there
is plenty of time to get such a question on the ballot and a site where
members can read the findings and decide what they want.
