Hello All,
Font Display characteristics on both boards are defined in the style sheet file 'default.css' of which there
are two; one for RW and one for AN. On the AN Message Boards the 'message text' should be controlled by
class.mbmessagetext. However when I looked at default.css from the AN server it fails to define
class.mbmessagetext. There is a class.mbmessage defined for the overall 'message table' that appears to be the
default for the message text (lacking a definition for .mbmessagetext):
.mbmessage { background-color:#FFFFFF; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;
font-weight: normal; border-color: #CCCCCC }
This will display Arial as the primary font in 12pt, normal weight. If your browser does not support Arial
then Helvetica will become the font. If your browser does not support Helvetica then the next font is
displayed etc.
On the RW side default.css defines the message text as:
.mbmessagetext {background-color:#FFFFFF; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 80%;
font-weight: normal; }
This is similar to the AN side with a major exception. The gottcha in this is the *80%* which will display a
font only 80% the size of 'normal' which is usually 12pt (or whatever size you have set as default in your
browser). This yields a font slightly smaller than 10pt.
It does not appear to be an intentional difference between the boards. The programmer looks to have simply
failed to define class.mbmessagetext in the AN style sheet.

this. When I stumbled on this difference earlier I thought, "Wow. Maybe the font's the problem and a change
to the size Ancestry is using on their boards might help those who are crying for larger text and easier
reading." Nothing more. Nothing less.

*Largest* to equal the preset default size displayed on the same Ancestry board in the same mode (if you
change the *rw&p* in URL to *an&p* you can go back and forth between RW and Ancestry). It makes absolutely no
difference whether User Mode or Admin. Either gives the same results.

pages, I changes my browser default fonts to a very bold, script font. No effect on *either* page. I
repeated with several other easily recognizable fonts with the same results. Therefore, my browser font is
*not* determining the font I'm seeing on either board.

with older versions of IE or various versions of Netscape are getting entirely different results. I've copied
Vicki on this so she can pass this information along to the programming teams so they'll know what was being
used when this variance was encountered.

trying to open a new can of worms; only thought I'd found a cause.
