Pat-

True to a certain extent--but I'm not sure that RootsWeb shouldn't at the
very least be putting pressure on alter.net to fix the problem--since the
problem appears to be just outside the firewall. I'm also not sure that we
are seeing the complete picture here because of the RootsWeb firewall and how
it affects our traces.

I do have to correct a statement I made earlier regarding Sandi's problem--I
had not done a trace to the boards servers specifically before now and my
trace below DOES look like the boards servers are probably at the same
location as the RootsWeb servers. So Sandi's problem may well be the same
one others are facing.

My trace route to boards looks just fine--but even with my phenomenal times
it does slow down in SLC. Look at the difference between the times for NYC
alter.net and SLC alter.net.

Since the bad traces I've seen stop just before consonus it is difficult to
say exactly where the real problem lies but it is definitely close enough to
RootsWeb's end, and RootsWeb is alter.net's customer, that they should be
beating on alter.net/UUnet to resolve the problem.
