Someone enlighten me, please!

I do not understand why those posts are not considered commercial
advertising and an AUP violation. If he placed the same wording in
classifieds of a newspaper, newsletter, journal, etc. he wouldn't get it
free -- he'd be paying an advertising fee. Whether he mentions a $
amount or not in his posts, the only thing he is doing on the boards is
promoting his service (research) for hire. How can this not be
commercial?
