Subject: Re: [BAd] Deleting an Incomplete Message
Date: Wed, 3 May 2006 15:37:07 EDT

In a message dated 5/3/2006 3:19:48 PM Eastern Standard Time,
writes:

A poster on one of my county Message Boards posted an obit but the message
accidentally got posted before all the details were added.

A new message was then posted explaining what happened and said to
disregard
the
first post. I deleted the first, incomplete post, but the second posting
also disappeared off
the board so I went to the recycle bin and restored the post.

I then changed the subject line on the second, correct post, thinking
that the
"Reply" feature tied the two posts together so if the first one was deleted

the other went along with it.

I then deleted the incomplete post again but the second post disappeared
again with it. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help,
Marilyn

Marilyn-

There is no way to accomplish what you want since the poster attached the
second complete reply to the first incomplete one. When you delete a post that
has another post or posts attached to it the replies go along with the post
into the recycle bin. You won't SEE them in there unless/until you restore
the post--and then the replies will magically appear again.

I've found the best way to handle this is to restore the post and copy and
paste the complete reply into an email to the poster and advise the person to
repost that reply after you have deleted the incomplete one. Explain to the
person that should this happen in the future the poster needs to post the
second complete reply attached to the original message and not to the incomplete
reply. Advise the person to then click on REPORT ABUSE and request that the
board admin remove the incomplete post.

Your only other alternative is to leave both replies so that the information
won't be missed and just ignore the incomplete message that is on there by
mistake.
