Subject: [BOER-WAR] Book on General Jan Smuts

To all on the list:

We, Taffy and David Shearing, are currently busy writing a book on
General Jan Smuts and his long ride through the Cape Colony. As we've
done with our previous books, we want to include a list of all Smuts'
men - particularly those who crossed the Orange with him and fought in
the CC.

At present we know of 263 members of this commando. Of those only 49
appear to be Cape rebels, 15 are from foreign countries and the
addresses of 90 are unknown. The balance came from the Transvaal and
Orange Free State.

If you know of any, please let us have details. We'll need to know his
name, if possible his address, any other information and also how or
where you obtained the information. Please don't think we must have
your information. You might well know something about one of them that
we don't. In that case we'd like to include it.

Best wishes,

Taffy and David Shearing
