Subject: [BOER-WAR] BOER WAR - DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY
Date: Tue, 17 Oct 2000 21:52:52 +1000
My Grandfather, Robert WALTON (8277) fought in the Boer War with
the "Durham Light Infantry".
His "Service Record" shows the following:
"Home" - 24 Mar 1900 to 15 Mar 1901
"South Africa" - 16 Mar 1901 to 4 Jun 1902
"Home" - 5 Jun 1902 to 5 Jun 1902
Both "The Durham County Advertiser" & "The Durham Chronicle" for
Friday 7th June 1901 record the "Homecoming " of the "Durham Light
Infantry" from the Boer War; Wherein there is mention of a R. WALTON
whom I naturally assumed to be my Grandfather until recent times,
when
on rechecking his "Service Record"; I realised the R. WALTON
mentioned
in the Newspaper article could not have been mine, As my R. WALTON
returned home from the Boer War on the 4 - 5 June 1902.
My question is:
1. Is there a Newspaper account of the return from the Boer War
of
the "Durham Light Infantry" 4 - 5 June 1902?
2. How can I find out who this other R. WALTON is?
3. Is there a list of Soldiers going to and from the Boer War
with
the name of the Ships they sailed on?
4. Would there be a list of the recipients of the "Queen's South
Africa Medal" ?
