Loretta: Your description could be a number of things but may be the
Queen's South Africa Medal which was awarded to all those who took part in
the Boer War. It is silver and has Queen Victoria's head on the obverse.
On the reverse is "Victory" holding a wreath on an outstretched arm.
Numerous bars (clasps) were awarded with the medal including: Cape Colony,
Transvaal and Orange Free State. If it is the official medal it should be
named to your uncle around the outer rim of the medal with serial number,
rank, name and regiment. Dick Flory
