Dear Ian and David,

Thank you very much for your information. I will find out what I can from
family members regarding my g-grandfather's musical abilities. It would not
surprise me to find out that he was musical as my father and my sons are all
very gifted musicians. Most of my father's cousins and their children also
seem to have an uncanny natural ability to pick up any instrument and play
it. (Sigh...some of us got left behind in that part of the gene pool!) I know
Michael was some sort of massage therapist and worked for the Kelly family at
the Philadelphia Athletic Club. Michael emigrated to the US shortly after
recovering from his Boer War wounds, but no one seems to know exactly when.

As for the medals, my g-grandfather had four daughters and one son -- all of
the medals would have been given to the son. As he had no children of his
own, they were to pass to my father, who is the oldest grandson. Upon his
uncle's death, it was discovered that they, along with my g-aunt's jewelry,
were missing. We were never able to locate the live-in nurse after my
g-uncle's death, which leads us to believe she helped herself to anything of
value upon his demise.

Thank you again for all of your help and information. I shall continue the
search!

Donna
