Subject: [BOER-WAR] what records are there
Date: Sun, 29 Oct 2000 20:11:42 +1030

This is my first message to the list.
Can anyone tell me where to start.
I have a soldier who was demobbed after WW1. I have his army number.
Requests to PRO about his records have produced a nil result.
Information from his son tells me his father spent time in the Boer
war at Durban. He was injured and spent a lot of time playing cards as
his was a foot injury. (now no nasty comments please!) Our Soldier was
born June/July 1879 and came from Leeds. He enlisted in the KOYLI for
WW1 although it is unknown what regiment he was in for the Boer war.
His own comments about the war indicated that he was too young and
never should have been there. He would have been over 18 but under 21
at the time of his enlistment.
Regards to all
Sue Kinsella
