Subject: [BOER-WAR] Help with finding William Henry Jane!

My great grandfather William Henry Jane disappeared to Africa in 1898,
presumably to enlist in the Boer War. There is no record of him as a
casualty and I have been unable to find a death registration for him at all
despite extensive searching through the indexes. I know that previous to
1898 he worked on the railways as a porter and guard in the
Wandsworth/Battersea area.
Has anybody got any ideas on how I can proceed with this one, I would be
grateful for any advice.
