Subject: [BOER-WAR] Boer War burials
Date: Wed, 10 Mar 2004 15:56:11 -0500
After a long search and the help of several people on this web site, including Gerold Whittaker,I have finally found the grave of my ancestor in Ladysmith,Kwa Zulu Natal,South Africa.
Unfortunately his grave, unlike other Boer War casualties, is unmarked.I suspect that other Boer War graves in the same cemetery are also unmarked.
In trying to find the British Government Dept., responsible for marking and maintaining British Army graves overseas it appears that no Dept., is responsible for War casualties incl. and prior to the Boer War.
The Commonweath War Graves Commission appears to be responsible only for WW1 and subsequent conflicts.
Can anybody shed any additional light on this subject please?
