Tony,
Many thanks for looking up my great uncle on the Wepener roll and the
casualty list for the RAMC for the whole of the Boer war. Not only did he
survive the Boer war but he enlisted in the RAMC again when WW1 started
during which he spent over 2 years in France with the BEF.
After the war, he continued where he had left off when the war had started
by adding 5 sons to the family of 5 daughters he already had before he went
to France in 1915.
During the Boer war, he left Southhampton on the P&O ship "SS NUBIA" on the
21st Oct. 1899 as part of 18 Coy RAMC and arrived at Cape Town on the
14th. Nov 1899. After that I lose track of him until he embarks from Cape
Town sometime in mid 1900 bound for Woolwhich.
His Military History Sheet says that he was in South Africa from 23. 10.
1899 and was entitled to the South African Medal and 2 clasps. I presume
that the medal would have been the QSA medal Unfortunately, no mention is
made about which clasps he received. He may have got one for being
stationed in Cape Town for awhile but he obviously went to another place as
well. At the moment, where he went is a mystery.
Thanks once again for your generous help.
Regards.
Patrick.
