Hello Kevin,
I have looked at your web site and found it very interesting---it covers the
same period as my grandfathers, He was enlisted at 18 in October 1888 in
Manchester.
At that time he was an engineering apprentice, but never served his time.
Perhaps the factory was too awful? Unlike your candidate he didn't have a
campaign medal for India -though he was there from September 1891 to Feb
1896, so I guess they were just flying the flag, and not engaged in any of
the skirmishes, although my father said he told him a lot about the hill
tribes and their fighting.. . I guess this was the Afghan border? so no
change there.
I should like to read more about the tour of duty that his particular
regiment was engaged in, but don't know how to pursue this. Do you have any
suggestions please?
