Hello Peter
How do I start to say thank you ??? you have explained more in your e-mail
than I have ever understood about Grandfathers reason for being in South
Africa
I will just say that I did use the service of a "professional" researcher
who finally informed me that there was no record of my Grandfather to be
found and that his details were probably lost as lots were he also claimed
to have checked the medal rolls and found nothing.
So you can imagine how knocked over I was to see the contents of your e-mail
I now know what Company he served with and can follow this up to see what he
was actually doing out there, I have a photo of man not in uniform but
driving what looks like a small shunter train and am now wondering if this
may be connected
Than you so much for replying and for supplying so much to go on after
having thought there was no way forward I now know so much more about him
thanks to you and the other members of this list I only hope I will get the
chance to do something in return
Very Many Thanks
Roger L
