Jane I don't think District Officer has anything to do with the Boer War.
This officer was part of the civilain colonial government organisation. he
was a kind of magistrate, overseer. He got around all over the place. often
on horseback or in a sort of hammock between the shoulders of two men. My
mother in law was carried thus in what was then Northern Rhodesia in
1910-1914.There should be many book in the libraries about Kenya and
Colonial governemtn. have you tried google?
And Kenya is miles away from South Africa and its Anglo-Boer war, though
some men may have gone south for a bit of a fight. then as men are wont to
do!
Patricia
