I will have a couple of mattresses on the roof for comfort..bit windy...

I went to Springbok and Upington in April and that had to
be the best trip out in the last 4 years. But I am hoping
to make this one even better. The main thing is forward planning.

Picked up quite a bit of Boer War stuff.

One of the 2006 trips to Kimberley was good, I popped in to Doornbult
which was a British encampment and Concentration Camp. Amazing to see
Mess Tins, Unused Cartridges, Empty Food Tins etc just laying around
as it was left over 100 years ago.

A similar thing at Rooidam and Steenkampspan north of Upington. Only
this was left from the conflict with German South West Africa in 1914.

BTW, for anyone in the Western Cape (within reach of Cape Town)
and really off subject, I will be back in Uniform for a few days
in November. I have been coerced into taaking on the role of Castle
Guard Commander(VIP Escort) for the Military Tattoo 14th to the
17th of November. As I was in the Scots Guards for a number of years
they seem to think I can still march 32 years after being discharged.....!
