Hi Kevin,
With our currency at almost R15-00 to £1 it becomes very expensive to have
a
search done at the archives.
It is very frustrating especially if you're looking for a Smith.
My grandfather was Frederick Ernest Smith.
On your website there are so many F, Fred and Frederick Smiths it is
impossible to have a paid search done.
Never the less I am very thankful for all the help on the Boer War
rootsweb.
Have a lovely day,
Regards from SA,
Karin.
Karin,
Was your Grandfather British Regular or did he enlist in South Africa? If
the latter then I don't have him listed.. if the former then it is not too
hard
as all the documents in WO 97 are sorted alphabetically and it's just a case
of matching him to his biographical details.. you can then have the
documents
filmed and attached to emails.. which negates postage costs. Does cut the
cost down.. but still the problem with SA is that payments I have taken in
the
post have nearly always not arrived - and Paypal is not a common means of
payment out there.. but not to fear.. within 2 years it is planned to have
most
of these on-line to access!
Kevin
