Hello, group,
I have inherited an old photo book from my grandparents Boniface. It was
stored in a basement when my grandmother died, and is very riddled with
mildew. I have managed to salvage many of the photos, thought none of them
are in perfect condition. The old metal ones are flaking away, most of them
gone. However, 6 of the regular photos, when removed from the molding
pages, turned up to have been taken at studios in England, rather than in
Michigan. Three of them come from E. Woodcock, photographer, No. 9 the
Quadrant, Bottom of Queen's Road, Brighton. 2 of these 3 were taken at the
same table, with what looks like the same vase of flowers. I'm guessing
them to be a couple. The shape of the facial features and the hair look
much like a younger version of Thomas and Harriet at their golden wedding
party (Photo on the BIG website). Do any of their descendants have photos
of Tom and Harriet before they were gray haired? The 3rd photo from the
same photographer is of a young couple, he (blond) standing by her chair.
Two other photos are from Brighton, One from Willett Bros, photographers No
39 Ship Street, Brighton ( a lady in a shawl and hat, with something in her
lap), the other from W. Prudden, 19 Tidy street, leading from Trafalcar
street, Brighton, 16 years with McCombes of Preston Street ( this man,
leaning on a chair, unfortunately no longer has a head!). The 6th photo, a
waist up view of a woman leaning on the back of a chair, is from
Sittingbourne! Quite a bit north. The photographer is J.O. Ockenden, of 84
High Street, Sittingbourne. Any Bonifaces in Sittingbourne, or any girls
marry that direction?
I'm thinking that these may well be family pictures, seeing as they came
all the way from England to the U.S. Anyone have similiar photos, or know
of these photographers?
Thank you, and hope you are all having a good January.
Regards,
Michele
