Hi Terry
The first thing I want to say is I agree that you are to stay at No 4 as
I feel that you have a connection somewhere as the name Boniface is
unusual & it would not have stayed in your Mother's mind.

Is it possible that Naomi was a Boniface & went to live with the family
of Bellingham's as a young child & took over the name? or the other way
around?

I gather you have not found Naomi's Birth yet?

I think from Memory was the Marriage in Eastbourne? If so I have a lot
of records from that area & maybe we can dig a bit deeper were they both
from Eastbourne?

Dear Steve and Betty and Listers

After some weeks of anxiety, I have now got evidence that my great
grandfather Walter William Scott did not marry Naomi Boniface as I was
always lead to believe - but Naomi Bellingham. My mother had always said
over many years that her grandmother Scott was Naomi Boniface. Of course
when I made contact with Dennis Boniface he confirmed in my mind the
connection and my enthusiastic support for BIG stems from then.

As we have had some discussion on the site over the past few weeks and I
said myself only two months ago, one has to check everything and only
rely on original documentation. I was sent my grandfather's birth
certificate last year and this indicated that Walter William was married
to Naomi Scott (formerly Bellingham). I have been trying to confirm
whether this was the case or it was a transcription error. I could find
no other records of a Naomi Bellingham in the 1881 census, IGI or other
records so have stuck to the theory that mum and Dennis were right - for
the time being.

However, shock horror - I have now managed to identify the records of
the marriage of Walter William Scott and Naomi Bellingham in 1886 and a
marriage certificate turned up today confirming what I had suspected for
a couple of months.

I must say that I have a had a very enjoyable time being such an
integral part of the BIG and hold out hope that one of my other twigs
might have married into the Boniface's so I can come back with my head
held high, ego intact and enthusiasm refired. As Betty Deforest has said
there must have been some reason why my mother said that her grandmother
was a Boniface. In fact the marriage certificate does not show her
fathers name at all where it does with my Scotts. Maybe she is Naomi
Boniface trying to hide!!!!

I will keep on my search.

I have asked to remain a member of the BIG (Member No 4) as I continue
my quest.

Best wishes to you all

Terry

Regards

Terry Walls
