As some of you know I have been trying to find the birthdate for my grandfather for
several years. What he wrote down everywhere was July 4, 1840. Well, his mother died
two weeks before that. Finally, I have corresponded with the priest in the parish where I
knew the family was a member. He just wrote back:
3rd July 1838
Joseph Greaves son of William and Sally Booth of Royton. Spinner
Joseph was Baptized by the Revd. J.H.Steble.
Now you must know how excited I am. On the 1841 census you couldn't tell exactly how
old he was. Since his mother died,, his father remarried and the family came to USA in
middle 1850s I guess the new mother was the only one he knew. She probably didn't
know. We had looked at St Catherine's in London for several years before and no birth
certificate.
Just had to share the good news.
