Dear Sharon,
The original post on the N.S. list was dated 31 July 99, from you,
subject: DAVIDSON/ALLEN/AYER NS>ma>/VT/CT>NY>OH>ME...IN DAR.
You start of the query like this:
"Out of curiosity after Mimi raised the question of the DAR entries for
a Nova Scotia company mentioned in the DAR volumes, I started looking at
the DAR enteries for Canadians before or after the Revolutionary war.
The first Nova Scotian references I found were for Ezra and Daniel
Davidson, John Allan, and Elijah Ayer, but there is many a tangled web
to the NH GOFFE family and others in Maine and Abington, MA in the later
lines. You ask if anyone had any idea where Ezra's family came from before NS.
and went on to list some of the info you found in DAR lineages.
Doris

Dear Sharon,
Saw your posting on the NS list, and wondered if you have Eaton's
History of Kings County? In it he says that Asa Davidson (s/o Andrew)
was b. 1756 and m. 1793 Prudence Denison.
Andrew was the eldest son of Thomas and Lydia (Herrick) Davidson of
Promfret, Connecticut and was b. in Preston, Ct. 17 June 1727. He
married Eunice Kimball and d. 15 Feb. 1784. He had 9 children,
including Asa.
I have no connection to the Davidson family, but thought this might
interest you.
Also, I wondered if you have read the book by Ernest Clarke called "The
Seige of Fort Cumberland", which was published in 1995. On page 11, Mr
Clarke says that John Allen was of Bloody Bridge (now Point de Bute),
but that he spent part of his youth in Boston, where he was "exposed to
radical politics". He married Mary Patton, d/o Mark. He became an
elected Member for Cumberland in 1775. On 13 March, 1776, his 5th child
was born whom he called George Washington Allen. His house was burned
by the Loyalists after Eddy's rebellion was squashed.
Elijan Ayer is mentioned on page 78, where it says that Elijah was a
resident of Sackville, and carried on a costal trade. His schooner was
used by Jonathan Eddy to transport the rebel soldiers from Machias to
Chignecto in October 1776.
This book is very well researched, and an interesting read. Mr Clarke
was honored by a national award by the Canadian history community for
his work on this book.

Interested in Mary Patton and John Allan noted in your recent e-mail in
nsroots-digest.
My ggggrandfather was Richard Thompson, b. 1744, who married Dorothy
Patton, b about 1750, m. Dec.4, 1774 in Jollicure, N.B. Richard had
emigrated from Yorkshire. Dorothy was born in Londonderry, Ireland,
daughter of Mark Patton and Ann McGowan who emigrated to Canada. Richard
and Dorothy moved to what is now Oxford, Nova Scotia in 1791, having bought
1500 acres of land from a John Allan and became the first white settlers of
that town. John Allan had been granted the land previously. Both Richard
and Dorothy died in Oxford, N.S., Richard on Oct.21, 1821 and Dorothy about
1830. Mark Patton, b. about 1710, d. Feb.14, 1781, m. about 1740 in County
Ulster, Ireland. Ann McGowan, b. about 1717, in County Ulster, Ireland, d.
July 31, 1808. Both died in Cumb. Co., Nova Scotia.
Just wondering whether there may be a connection between my Dorothy
Patton and your Mary Patton. Do you think they may have been sisters??
Did my Richard Thompson buy his land from his brother-in-law??
I have no further information about Mark Patton and Ann McGowan Patton's
family. Will appreciate any help. Thank you.Good luck,Bill Wood.

interest to lots of folks.
I will post some more DAR refs for Nova Scotia in the DAR volumes. If anyone
