I am very interested in any family history on Tip O'Neill. I came
across a web page which told a little about Tip O'Neill's heritage from
Mallow, Cork, Ireland.
I have a mystery family of O'Neill's who are connected to my Donahoe
family also from Mallow Cork Ireland. I am wondering if it would be too
lucky to find out if these families are connected.
O'NEILL C.,
O'NEILL MICHAEL,
O'NEILL PATRICK
These 3 O'Neill's showed up as sponsors to various children of Patrick
Donahoe and Mary Parker in 1857 and then again in 1876. Purely by the
fact that they all had the same surname makes me wonder if they were
related. Checking the 1860 census for Massachusetts I find a Michael
O'Neill approximately the same age as Patrick and Mary. They also have
a son Patrick who 19 years later may have been the godfather to Joseph
Patrick Donahoe.
Michael O'Neill 35 Ireland
Mary 36 Ireland
Mary 10 Massachusetts
Patrick 7 Massachusetts
John 16 Massachusetts
Checking for the birth records of any of the 3 children might give
further clues on who these O'Neills are and how they may be related to
the Donahoes/Parker clan.
What little I know of Tip O'Neill ancestry is as follows:
Descendants of John O'Neill
1 John O'NEILL b: in Mallow Cork Ireland
. +Joanna CONNELL b: in Mallow Cork Ireland m: October 30, 1822 in
Mallow, Cork Ireland Father: Daniel O'Connell Mother: Catherine Quinlan
...... 2 Patrick O'NEILL b: 1832
.......... +Julia FOX b: 1839 in Mallow Cork Ireland
.............. 3 Thomas P O'NEILL
.................. +Rose Anne TOLAN
...................... 4 Thomas P. O'NEILL, Jr b: December 9, 1912 in
Cambridge, Mass
.......................... +Mildred Anne MILLER m: June 17, 1941
.............................. 5 Rosemary O'NEILL
...... 2 Michael O'NEILL
...... 2 John O'NEILL
Could brother 2 be my Michael O'Neill. I found very few spellings of
this surname with both 'l's. If anyone knows anything further on Tip
O'Neill heritage, I would be greatful
