I have just added to my web site several text materials related to
Charles Bartholemew Richardson. He was a dry goods merchant in Boston
in the mid to late nineteenth century. Two of the items may be of
interest to others with Boston ancestors:
1. Letters written to CBR by John B. FLETCHER during the Civil War.
Fletcher was a white officer of colored troops.
2. A diary by CBR of his first buying trip to Europe in 1853. He
mentions a number of Boston people. For example:
"Among the many friends that came to see me off ... my Mother and Mrs
CHIPMAN, also Mrs. MCDONALD and her Daughter; Mrs. PARKER of Buffalo and
her sister; Eben PUTMAN, Boston; John FLETCHER, Boston; Samuel MASON,
(ditto); George GOULD, (ditto); H. M. JENKINS, (ditto); C.S. FAULKNER,
(ditto); John CHIPMAN, Marlboro; Harvey TORREY, Abbington; W.G. HARRIS,
Boston; Henry FROST, Chelsea; Sumner WHALEN, Chelsea; G W CHIPMAN Esq;
Mr. GRIFFIN, Bowden Lane

Enjoy.
PS:
http://pages.prodigy.net/york47/richtxt.htm#5 will take to you the link
to letters to his wife Julia Anna HYDE from her parents. An interesting
description of life for a single woman in the 1800s.
