Hello,
I am trying to learn more about my grand-grandmother, Clara Lavinia WILDE
(1861-1934) who went to the Boston Conservatory of Music, probably about
1876
- 1881. (She was born in either Braintree or Fairhaven, MA.) My late
grandfather told me that Clara (his mother) qualified from the school for a
concert pianist and a piano teacher. She also gave concerts in this area
(New Bedford, MA) and on the Cape, and gave music lessons.
Hi Betty,
The 1883 Guide to Boston says that the Conservatory, 154 Tremont St., opened
in 1867, had up to 15,000 pupils to that time. The violin dept. was
considered the best in the world - only 4 pupils per class. Weekly free
classes in musical theory, harmony, and "singing at sight." Frequent
Chamber Concerts, Julius Eichberg, Director."
Good luck on your search...
