My Bowman ancestor lived in Harlan Township, Warren County, Ohio, also. This was
Matilda Bowman Allen. She was born in Virginia in 1822. She was married in
Clinton County, Ohio. Clinton borders Warren. I've tried to find her family,
and the only Bowmans in the area in the 1850 census were Daniel and Mary. They
lived in Marion Township in Clinton County, which is right next to Harlan
Township in Warren They were from Virginia. In 1860 he was 53 and she was 52.
Their oldest child living with them was 18. I suspect that this was Matilda's
family, and that there may have been other children - possibly your John? I
found Daniel's death record. He was born in Shenandoah County, Virginia. There
is a marriage record in that county for a Daniel Bowman and Mary Docter, I
believe in 1820 or 1821. That all fits. I also found Daniel's will, but it does
not mention his children by name. In 1850, the children living with him and Mary
were: Louisa 18, Joseph 16, and Isaac, 14. What do you think? Are we
researching the same family?
