Hi Jane, The Junius J. Boyle was Commador Boyle and is burried on the Naval
Hospital lawn. My Grandmother told me tales of him when he was a midshipman,
such as because he had the chewing tobacco habit he was prone to spitting,
once on a cruise he was caught spitting and as a punishment was forced to
wear a spittoon hung by a rope arround his neck. Another concerning a ships
liberty party where the captain, as drunk as the rest, was caught bending
over and was booted in the a_ _ by one of the revelers reportedly Midshipman
Boyle, but never disclosed.
I really never appriciated what my Granny knew until she was gone and I
realized that I knew nothing about my mothers side of the family.
I have never heard of the Junius born in 1911, My grandfather was born 1866
in I think Virginia, Md, or DC. I do know that he was a contractor in DC when
he met Matilda Donaldson, and married her, they eloped and were married in
either Chicago, or St. Lewis, because he was Roman Catholic and she was a
Baptist. She later became a convert to Catholic Church. My mother was born on
her birthday Sept 8, 1909, it was her 33rd birthday. Sept. 8th is also the
nativity of Mary the mother of Jesus. There was also a son John Franklin
Boyle jr. who died at the age of 5, from Polio. I have not been able to find
out how I'm related to Junius other than mayby a brother. Hope you may have
more of a link. John
