To all, I think this Samuel is the son of James of Edgecomb. If you
refer back to his will, you see that he named son Samuel just before
he named Meady. Meady was born in 1745, so Samuel could have been
born by 1743 and have been 18 in 1761 which would be a likely age for
a chain bearer. I know nothing about this Samuel. I think, however,
that the Bozeman cemetery that Rebecca found earlier, to the west of
Edge. Co., could be of the desc. of this Samuel or James Jr.. It
will be a project for the future. All items like this are very
important in building up the full picture.
I did not have the Martha as a witness item either. I am
thinking she was the dau. of Joseph Howell Sr. as he named a dau.
Martha in his will and James purchased land from Joseph Jr. but we
need more proof.
I want to alert everyone that I think Martha moved to Bladen Co.
just a few years after James died in 1786. I had a note concerning
land she acquired there in her own name, but can not find it now.
Her land records and probate records in Bladen are something to watch
out for, but as Bladen is so bereft of its records, the state
archives would be the place to find anything.
Also Shadrach is someone I keep dropping, I guess because I do
not know who he is. We have enough mysteries as it is, but we must
keep him in mind.
I second Nancy in saying Rebecca is doing good work. We all
appreciate it. You seem to have access to very good resources.
Diana
