Hey I got even a better one for then that when it comes to the BAD census
records, my Ephraim Lacey Braswell, born 1861 and obviously a MALE was
listed on the 1870 census as LUCY and a FEMALE. I guess the census taker
heard the name Lacy (which it DOES say and not Lucy) and just "assumed" he
was a she.

It's always best to try and use any documents from court houses or try to
use common sense with people in places along with the census records; I've
found TONS of incorrect census record mistakes. Not just with the census
takers, but with the transcriptions of Ancestry.com as well. Someone once
told me Ancestry shipped copies to be transcribed "over seas" for cheap
labor. I don't know if that is true, but sometimes I wonder. This was a
shout out to anyone studying the census records, if you can try to call the
courthouse of the last place your ancestors were and see if you can get
copies of original documentation. I've made phone calls where they sent me
stuff for FREE! Sometimes they want an arm and a leg and sometimes they
just pop copies right in the mail to you that day.

Joyce, that William is the son of my 3rd greatgrandfather Samuel
Braswell. If you go to all the census records for William and compare
them, you will see what a bad job they did in 1860. The one part I do
particularly appreciate is the daughter's initials, V. A. which stand
for Virginia Ann which is unacceptable information for some members of
my estranged family. The other children are John Henry, George A. and
Francis B. William married Nancy M. Mason, and for some reason, they
wrote "Lucy" in 1860.

Ann

I don't have the paper trail, but I do have the match.
