I may have been looking for you! Dear Subscribers, I have been obsessed
looking for information about my ancestrals for a long time now. Apparently,
my great-grandparents did not talk very much to their sons and grandsons
about their past, possibly because they were probably very busy trying to
survive, and now nobody in the family seems to know much about anything or
even to care about it... It is well known that the Atlantic south has no
memory... Therefore, I, their great-granddaughter, had to do everything, all
the "digging up", by myself. After spending a lot of effort and many kinds
of personal energy, I ended up discovering many things. However, I really
would like to be able to confirm the information obtained and/or discuss it
further... We could talk in English, in italiano, or even in português...
better still, we could mix them all together...

Mi chiamo Bertelli Rosangela, ed abito a Portogallo. Cerco informazioni sul
mio bisnonno, Angelo Bertelli, di Antonio e di Carolina G., e sul mia
bisnonna, Onesta Bonzi, di Gianni e di Filomena. Cerco questi dati per
conoscere meglio la mia famiglia, e per trovare i miei parenti rimasti in
Italia. So che è data di emigrazioni dall’ Italia a Brasile (nella nave
"Birmania") il 1888 all’ età di 39 anni circa (Angelo) e 26 anni circa
(Onesta Bonzi). So che il loro prima figlia fuo mia prozia Filomena nata a
Italia.

Recently I have been told by an expert in this sort of research that they
(Angelo, Onesta and their five-year-old daughter Filomena) were living in a
village called Ottaviano (Campania) when they left Italy heading towards
Brazil. They entered Brazil in December (06/12/1888) through the Port of
Santos. I also happen to have found a historical for the Bertelli surname,
which says:

"...il cognome italiano Bertelli trova la sua origine nel nome del patriarca
(primo membro del casato). Tali nomi sono codificati dagli studiosi di
onomastica come derivati da una radice patronimica e costituiscono anche la
categoria pi ampia dei cognomi ereditari. Il cognome Bertelli trova la sua
origine nel nome personale Berto, forma abbreviata di nomi di origine
germanica terminanti in "-berto" come Alberto, Adalberto, Lamberto, Roberto,
Umberto e Uberto... I nomi che seguono possono essere visti come varianti di
Bertelli: Berto, Berti, Bertini e Bertucci. Una delle prime note su questo
nome è quella osservabile nella biografia di un certo Ferdinando Bertelli
incisore, menzionato nel 1566. Dato che le ricerche su questo nome sono
ancora in corso, esiste la possibilità che sia reperibile materiale che
precorra i dati già esposti. Tra gli individui chi hanno portato questo nome
con distinzione sono Pietro Bertelli incisore ed editore, citato nel 1599;
Giuseppe Bertelli poeta, menzionato nel 1614; Alberto Bertelli sacerdote e
poeta, citato nel 1628; Girolano Bertelli domenicano, menzionato nel 1667;
Agostino Bertelli (1727-1776) pittore; Giuseppe Bertelli scrittore, nato nel
1847 e Sante Bertelli pittore, morto nel 1891..."

I also happen to know that when my great-grandparents (Angelo and Onesta)
and their little daughter (Filomena) arrived in Brazil, they were not
alone... with them there was a couple, probably Angelo’s brother, his
sister-in-law and his nephews (Massimo Bertelli married to Rosa and the
children - Primo and Gioacchino). I dream about the day I will be able to
visit the place where they came from and where some of my origins are. Is it
really Campania?!... Can anyone give me a light on all that?!...

Será que há alguma maneira de descobrir, através do Brasil, o local exato de
proveniência desses italianos (Angelo Bertelli, Onesta Bonzi, Filomena
Bertelli, Massimo Bertelli, Rosa, Primo e Gioacchino Bertelli) que, quando
chegaram ao Brasil, em dezembro de 1888, no navio "Birmânia", desembarcaram
em Santos e dirigiram-se imediatamente para a cidade de São Paulo, Estado de
São Paulo?!... Seria possível?!... COMO?
