This is where reading microfilms of old newspapers really helps. If you
can find his obit in the newspaper, you may gain all kinds of knowledge
about the person. The obit may tell his birthplace, who his parents
are... all good stuff. If he died after 1840, there's a real good
chance you'll be able to find his obit.
