Obituary from GOSPEL MESSENGER, January 27, 1945

Elder Jonas J. Peters was born near South Bend, In Jan 2, 1870 and died Oct.
27, 1944 at Havre, Mt. On April 27, 1894 he and his family migrated with 320
others from In and Ohio to Cando, N. Dak where he resided for ten years. Then
he moved to Idaho, from there to California, later to Canada and finally to
Kremlin, Mont.

He was called to the Ministry in 1915 and aided in organizing the Milk River
Valley church of the Brethren and was its presiding elder for many years,
His ministry was to the church and the community without monetary
consideration until failing health forced him to cease the more stremipis
phases of the work.

He was the oldest of five brother and his death is the first to break the
circle. He had a pioneering spirit that endeared him to the people wherever
he lived.

Surviving him are his wife, two stepsons, Manuel and Paul Mohn, William
Gilead an adopted son, a n eice, Mrs. Roy Good of Kremlin, five brothers
(four?) Moses S. of Waterford Calif, John R. Marvin A and James G of
Wenatchee Wa and a sister, Mrs. Holland of Wenatchee. All his brothers save
one were ministers

His greatest desire was ti be generous and good. Funeral services were
conducted at Havre by A/ P, Becker Whitefish, Mont.

Note Milk River Valley church of the Brethren was located near Gildford in
Hill County, Mt
