The York County Historical Society has extensive transcriptions of church
records from these churches. Reach them at

Subject: German Reformed Churches
I always come back to you, my old standby group---
I found out only two days ago that my great-grandfather was German.
Neither my father nor any of my siblings knew that. It's not that I don't
understand the older ones not telling the younger; after all, during World
War I and World War II, a person protecting his family would be careful
about letting anyone know they were German. Nevertheless, I feel that my
siblings and my father as well as myself have been cheated.
Adam Lang/Long (1767-1854) was a member of the German Reformed Church in
Virginia. I believe his parents may have also been German Reformed. He
was born in Pennsylvania in 1767.
My question is where were the German Reformed groups located primarily in
Pennsylvania from 1760-1780, especially in York Co.?
Also, Where were the German Reformed groups located in Maryland before
1792?
Finally, is there a specific set of books which list all or almost all of
the German Reformed church groups in Pennsylvania and Maryland before 1792,
telling their locations and who the members were, etc?
Thank you,
Virginia Long Hutson
