My wife might be a descendent of Michael Danner through his daughter, Anna,
who married Steffan Petri as second wife (we can't place the birth of a son
Jacob, whether with the first wife or second). Michael Danner has several
historical records. He was second settler west of the Susquehanna River,
buying his land from John Hendricks, a Quaker. He was hauled off to jail
in Baltimore by Thomas Cresaps, in the border dispute between Maryland and
Pennsylvania. His signature is on several state papers. He was the state
appointed surveyor for the Monocacy Road, a major migration route down into
Maryland and connecting to migration down the Valley of Virginia. (see my
paper on migration roads: Brethren Migration
<www.cob-net.org/docs/brethrenlife.htm> Monocacy Road) It went from
Michael's home to his son Jacob's home near Frederick MD.
Steffan Petri bought 290 acres from Michael Danner on 18 May 1771,
"Hose-a-Heim" (the Rabbit's Home). It was just west of the Chestnut Grove
Church/ cemetery -south of the Codorus State Park, east of Hanover PA.
When we were writing the book (Three Sons of Steffan Petri), we went out
there, obtained permission and camped at the Chestnut Grove Church
(inactive), and visited some of our contacts, who directed us around the
countryside. I don't remember exactly where it was that Michael Danner
lived (that was near 30 years ago!)
I'll be going through Columbus in a few weeks -going to my Daughter -at
Buffalo NY. There were Weybright classmates at Manchester College -back in
the '50s.
