I'm still looking for more information on this pair. Here's what I have so
far.
John I found in the Jan 1849 Lancaster Co, PA Orphan's Court records. (He
had been so disobliging as to die before the censuses started that gave more
information.) It lists his wife, and children as I knew them:
Elizabeth, Martha, Mary M. "Polie Mary", Anna "Annie", Sarah and Christian.
>From census and gravestone information, I have added this:
Martha (mother) was born abt 1800 (every census after 1850 shows her an even
decade increase for that age). (Her father's will indicates she was the
daughter of Henry/Heinrich Miller & his wife Mary.)
Elizabeth was born abt 1830
Martha was born 6 Dec 1833 (md Samuel R. Groff)
Polie Mary (I know, it's like saying Mary Mary, but that's the name she went
by.) was born 16 Dec 1834, buried in the Dunkard Cemetery in Adams Co, NE, md
to John Sides son of Jacob & Barbara Sides.
Anna was born abt 1838
Sarah was born abt 1839
Christian isn't identifiable in the 1850 census as several of the kids were
scattered, and there are several Christians. (John and Christian were common
names in the Gish Family, more's the pity.)
While I may have found them in 1840, there's not enough information to be
totally conclusive about which Christian might be the one I'm looking for.
And there's no information to indicate who John's parents might be. The Gish
"Footprints" book lists too many unmarried John's that might fit in the age
group. To the best of my knowledge, the family always lived in Lancaster co,
at least until Polie Mary moved west with her family . In 1850 they're in
Mount Joy twp.
Does anybody recognize this bunch???? I'm interested in finding out more
information on ALL of them.
Karen
