Can anyone tell me if a Revolutionary soldier had to be a member of the United Brethren in order to receive a warrant in the United Brethren Grant in Ohio.
I have a many great uncle who received 100 acres on the Muskingum River for his Virginia Continental service. The warrant is dated 1803 and refers to the Act of Congress dated 1796. "An act regulating the grants of Land appropriated for Military services, and for the society of the United Brethren for propagating the gospel among the Heathen....." His name was James leach and at the time was a resident of Orange County, North Carolina. The certificate is sign by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.
