There are several branches of the Ulrich/Ulery family, so far they have not
been tied together. Don Bowman (former president of the Brethren
Genealogical Society) did a presentation on this name at the Southern Ohio
Genealogical Society Meeting several years ago.
Probably the first of this family to the Ohio/Indiana area were married to
children of Philip Jacob Miller (and are included under his name in the
Michael Miller Book, Floyd Mason). Daniel Miller married Elizabeth Ulrich
and Susannah Miller married Daniel Ulrich.
They had come to Kentucky about 1795 and moved across the Ohio River to the
Obannon Church, Clermont Co OH within a few years. Philip Jacob obtained
2000 acres on the Warren/Clermont Co line, north of Goshen OH. (They were
some of the earliest members of the Obannon Church -first Brethren Church
north of the Ohio River. I pastor the Stonelick Congregation of the old
Obannon Church.) Some of his family were caught in the Virginia Bounty
Lands survey of 1801-2, and moved to new lands in Montgomery County OH,
most of the rest of the kin followed. This attracted Ullery brothers and
kin to Montgomery Co.
These Ohio Brethren were among the first settlers to move to Elkhart Co IN
-when lands up there began to be open, late 1820s-early 1830s. The main
family settlement was near Goshen IN.
Elizabeth Ulrich was the daughter of Stephen Ulrich Jr and Elizabeth (his
first wife). Daniel Ulrich was the son of Daniel Ulrich and Christina
?Holdenger.
