<< I'm looking for the ancestors of the Benjamin Gilman Wood (1829-1911)
family.
He was a minister of the United Brethen Church, born in Illinois, family
came from Virginia and Kentucky, raised in Vigo County Indiana and then
moved
to Webber Twp, Jefferson County, Illinois. I believe his father, name
unknown but possibly also Benjamin, was also a preacher in the United
Brethren Church. I understand that Benjamin and his sons were charter
members of the church in Jefferson Co. Any information would be
appreciated. >>
To listers,
A note on the surname of Wood when applied to people of German
descendancy. If you come across a deed wherein you find a Wood obtaining land
from someone whose last name is Utz / Otts or something similar they are
probalby related as the German Utz is the same name. They same applies to
Carpenter / Zimmerman.
