In 1905 Gosset & Dunlap came out with a 470-page volume entitled "Heart Throbs
" 'in prose and verse, dear to the American people.' The collection was
contributed to a prize contest initiated by the National Magazine in 1904-5.
It contains essays, speeches, stories, anecdotes, songs, poems, and
tear-jerking Ann Landers type episodes. I've checked the index but find
nothing with the title you mention. But it might be in the next book
entitled "More Heart Throbs" published several years later, which I once had.
Try bookstores and libraries in your area.
Would anyone know of a website or repository of songs and verses? My
harmonica-playing grandfather wrote the words of an Irish ballad on the back
of his land title from Kansas in the 1890's. We'd like to know the music.
