I've looking into the ancestry of a friend of mine, and was able to find the
following:

George Shaver (Schaeffer, misc. other spellings) Sr., born 1760, Hessian
soldier probably captured at the battle of Trenton. His son
was
George Shaver, Jr., born May 9, 1798, married Mary Beydler. He joined the
River Brethren, became a charter member of the Woodstock congregation. He
became deacon, then elder. His children included Samuel and Emanual
Shaver. Samuel Shaver became an elder in the Woodstock Church. His brother
Emanual organized the Progressive Brethren Church in the area. My friend
was descended from these two. George Shaver, Jr.'s daughter was
Sarah Shaver. She married a man named Funk and their daughter was
Turah Funk. Turah married Glenn Locke and their son was
John Locke. In 1954, Freeman Ankrum wrote an article in The Brethren
Evangelist called "A Virginia Elder Builds." In this article, Ankrum speaks
of John Locke as a reverend living in the home of George Shaver Jr. in 1932.
He also refers to "papers, in illuminated German script which may still be
viewed in the home of a descendant at Maurertown."

I am trying to find descedants of John Locke who may know of or have the
"papers, in illuminated German script." I'm hoping the papers will lead to
the identification of the German home town of George Shaver or Schaeffer,
Sr., the Hessian. According to HETRINA, there were about twenty George
Shaver or Schaeffers sent to the U.S.

There are several Lockes in Woodstock. I called A.K. Locke, but she
immediately and rather vigorously denied knowing anything of John Locke.
There is a Jimmy Locke, A.K. told me Jimmy was her son.

Does anyone know where the descedants of John Locke are?

Many thanks
Debra Hall
