Jeanette, Think I may have found your Elam Kelly age 49 b MA in the 1850 census of Monroe twp, Darke Co OH a farmer with real estate valued at 200. Wife Sarah 45 b GA, children Hardin 16, Ohio 14, Maria 12, Leander 10, Caroline 8, Lalar 4 and Amina 2 all b OH. Massachusetts points to the Quaker Kelly family of East Blackstone [formerly South Mendon] and Mendon and progeny back to one David O'Kelia, the Irishman who about 1637 settled in Yarmouth.
There is a book written in 1937 by William P Kelly, "American Ancestry and Descendants of Seth Kelly". I have only selected pages and unfortunately your Elam is not in what I have. Elam nor his wife appear in Quaker records here in the Miami Valley. Just a clue.
