GROSSNICKLE INFORMATION
The founder of the Grossnickle clan in America was Peter Grossnickle who
immigrated on the ship Neptune arriving at the port of Philadelphia on Oct.
25, 1746. He arrived on this ship along with Jacob Beiser/Biser, Henry
Eller, Henry Miller, three Steiners/Stoners (Isaac, Johannes/ Henrich, Jacob
and Christina) several Reinharts, Bowmans. Jacob Beiser's name is beside
Grossnickle.
Eller, Grossnickle, (possibly Henry Miller), and Beiser all settled in
Frederick Co., Md. several in the Middletown Valley. Peter Grossnickle lived
near Ellerton in the upper end and was a neighbor of Elder Daniel
Leatherman, the "Bishop" of the Maryland Churches until his death ca. 1797.
The Grossnickle church is one of the great old congregations of Maryland,
and through its founder Elder Daniel Leatherman, had a great influence on
Brethren in the east and south. This was also the congregation of the
Brethren Arnold families and the Harshman families as well.Emmert Bittinger
