Flora,
Your husband comes from a long and distinguished line. I, too,
descend from 'ole Henry as does your moderator Joe Bosserman and others on
this list. May I suggest you get ahold of a copy of the Henry Warner book
written by M/M Elgar Pumphrey in 1946. Brookville Hist. Soc. has such as
does the Ft. Wayne library.
A couple of things about that which you wrote. Though it is
generally recorded that Henry was born in Wurttemburg, Germany, it was the
independent state of the Kingdom of Wurttemburg. Germany as we know it was
not formed until ca 1870. Further, there is some evidence that Henry was
not the Immigrant. Maybe the best is that he was probably born in 1754 in
Frederick Co., MD as there is a birth record for a Johannes Heinrich Warner
in the Frederick Lutheran Church records; born 8 days before Christmas, 1754
to Nicholas Werner (info courtesy of Joe B.).
A Bedford Co., PA tax record of 1789 has his age as 36 (birth 1753)
which agrees well with the above. Then his first child was born in 1775
when Henry would have been 21-22, appropriate for a person born in the
Colonies. However, quite early if he were the Immigrant as several years
would have elapsed after his arrival while he generated money and bought
land prior to marriage. Of course, he may have arrived as a child, but that
is rather unusual.
Then there is the question of Roseanna Nicodemus. Though two of
Henry's children married Nicodemus siblings, I have found no evidence for a
Roseanna, only a Susanna Bostetter, d/o Andrew and Elizabeth (Long). Ivan
Nicodemus, author of two exhaustive books on the Nicodemus family states he
has found no evidence for a Roseanna of this approx. age. I am still trying
to track this one further, but it's very difficult to prove a negative.
My line is Henry -> John -> George -> John O. -> George C. -> Alma
May, my grandmother. Here is a more complet look at Henry's family:
