Galen,
Thank you not only for your interest but also for the possible additions to our library.
At the moment, we do not have an inventory list from which to draw. That will be accomplished as the first collection is unpacked. This consists of the Southern Ohio District Church of the Brethren Archives which has been accumulating for many years under the care of historian and genealogist Don Bowman of the Salem Church.
The second collection is coming from Fred Benedict of the Shady Grove Old German Baptist Brethren district, editor of Old Order Notes, board of The Brethren Encyclopedia and chair of the Brethren Heritage Center.
The third collection is from the children of the late elder Willie Miller of the Wolf Creek Old German Baptist Brethren district. Placed on permanent loan, it consists of approximately a thousand religious books, graphs and maps.
We have been approached by several other members of various branches of the Brethren about possibly receiving their materials as a bequest through wills or by donation.
While the majority of religious books, manuscripts, genealogies, etc are outright gifts, there will be some items on temporary and or permanent loan.
We are establishing an open stack policy, excepting rare books and manuscripts which will be made available to serious scholars. The facility will be operated by a volunteer staff.
Representatives from The Brethren Church, Church of the Brethren,Conservative Grace Brethren International, Dunkard Brethren, Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches, Old Brethren and Old German Baptist Brethren form the steering committee for the center. It is from this group of churches that the library will mainly be represented. With many converts coming from a verity of backgrounds, there will be a much smaller representation from other denominations.
We will be in touch as we progress.
