I have another paper directed at this particular area -
<www.rootsweb.com/~ohclermo/materials.htm#StonelickChurch>

The first Brethren I have found in the area is Joseph Auckerman, wife Susannah,
and one of their children -son John (who later went to Gratis OH). They came to
"Columbia" (mouth of the Little Miami River) in 1789.

The first church was the Obannon Baptist Church, on Obannon Creek near Goshen OH.
It was founded on the Indian Road from Bullskin Landing in 1795. The families
were Millers, Bowmans, Maugans, Weavers -mostly from Middletown Valley and the
Conococheague in Maryland. I pastor the Stonelick Church, a meetinghouse of the
original Obannon Church.

The Brethren did not actually go to Cincinnati (Hamilton Co), they landed their
flatboats at the sunken creek, Bullskin, at Utopia, near Chilo, in Clermont Co OH
(originally part of Hamilton Co). There were Indian Roads north from there, which
they followed. By 1800 there was a church at Bullskin, founded among the Millers,
Bolenders, Shinkles, Moyers, etc. (mostly from Penn Valley, Northumberland Co PA)

Christian Waldschmidt brought a settlement from Penn Valley to New Germany, now
Camp Dennison, on the Hamilton Co side of the Little Miami River, in 1795. His
wife was Catherine Bollander, sister of the minister at Bullskin. He was a
Pietist -whether actually Brethren is unknown.

The Custers and Kesslers, and possibly others, moved from 10 Mile Creek (New
Richmond) to Mill Creek in Hamilton Co, about 1805. Mill Creek is the path
followed by I-75 going into Cincinnati. Their settlement was north near
Sharonville, just below the I-275 bypass. I have not yet investigated this
community.

I know of no other early Brethren in Hamilton Co OH.
