I was distressed to read this email and I urge everyone to take the time to email with their names so that these documents can be saved. Some years ago, I was researching at the Pioneer Historical Library in Bedford. It is located very near the Bedford Courthouse. One of the workers at the Library told me that she had offered to take any documents that the Courthouse did not want to keep and preserve them at the Pioneer Historical Library where they would be available for researchers forever. She was told that they didn't have anything they could or would give the Library. Some time later, she was walking down the alleyway behind the Courthouse on her way back to the Library after lunch and found a box of old documents thrown into the trash of the Courthouse!!! She was told someone was "cleaning up" old files and there was no need to preserve them. People who are not interested in genealogy just have no idea of how precious these old documents are to those of us who a!
re. I hope she is successful in saving the records!
