Jim:
I checked the list and found my great-grandfather's name and also his
brother's name. They were both members of the Church of the Brethren.

Jim, I found at least 2 Stauffer ancestors on the list from
E. Earl twp, Lancaster, PA. I'm not sure if they were Brethren or not
but I do know their Aunt was Brethren, haven't been able
to verify Stauffers religion. nancy

If any of the readers of this Brethren list had Brethren male
ancestors in Pennsylvania, of "military age" during the Civil War, and
you have not found them in the Union Army records or pension files,
etc., you might check out the website below which provides lists of
Conscientious Objectors during the Civil War in PA.
http://www.pacivilwar.com/objectors.html
This website was mentioned on another Rootsweb mailing list.
Please respond to this list if you find your PA Brethren male ancestor
listed there so that we can actually find out if Brethren (German
Baptist Brethren at that time) were included on this list. (Also of
interest would be to check for your Quaker and your Mennonite
ancestors on this list as well.)
